Bike Maintenance

Hesketh long term storage requirements and battery management

Your Hesketh is equipped with an intelligent on board charging system that will keep your bike charged and ready to use whenever you need it.

The bike is equipped with Nickel metal hydride or lithium ion array batteries that are very robust and if well looked after and properly maintained will give you long service.

To get the best from your batteries and to keep them performing well you need to follow these points:

  1. Try to use the full capacity of the battery whenever possible.
  2. Ride the bike until the red low battery warning lamp illuminates at least once every 2 weeks.
  3. Charge the bike fully including an uninterrupted equalising charge weekly.
  4. When the bike is not going to be ridden or if it is to be stored for a long period then it has to be stored fully charged and recharged every 2 months. This is because the can bus communication system on the bike is still awake during idle periods and consuming a small amount of current, this is no different than a modern ICE powered vehicle.
  5. If you store the bike with the charging lead plugged into the socket and with the socket switched on the bike will fully charge and then automatically shut down when it has completed its charge cycle .It will not start another charge until it has been switched of at the wall socket and switched back on again. So don’t think that because it is plugged in and switched on at the socket that it will automatically keep itself topped up because this will not happen. If the batteries are allowed to drop below 102v the onboard charger will not be able to bring them back to life and this will mean a call from a service technician and is not covered by warranty. It is impossible to deplete the batteries to an un-rechargeable state by riding the bike as its battery management system will not allow it.

Cleaning your Hesketh

  1. Do not clean your bike with any kind of pressure washer or steam cleaner.
  2. Do not direct any kind of water hose behind any of the panels or shields.
  3. Clean with warm water and normal bike /car wash detergent and sponge.
  4. Do not use abrasive or corrosive material when cleaning your bike.
  5. Clean the screen with normal glass cleaner.

Tyre pressures

Tyre pressures play a huge part in the range, handling and performance of your Hesketh, check them twice weekly to insure optimum range as a soft tyre decreases range and can increase heat build up in all operating components due to increased rolling resistance.

See manual for correct pressure setting. For any technical advice please fill out the support form and a technical advisor will contact you shortly.
